It’s serious and fun, but it’s very different than anything DeMonaco has ever done. Myself and Naomi play the parents, and it’s a family drama. They’re dealing with these two crises, at the same time. It’s about the night Rocky III comes out, and it’s about this Italian family, who is struggling with one son who is gay and cross-dressing, and in that time in Staten Island, that’s a no-no, and a younger son who’s obsessed with Rocky, gets himself into trouble, and he’s on the run for the whole night. It’s a family drama and a period piece that’s set in 1982.

This is a movie that is very different than The Purge. GRILLO: To me, James DeMonaco is one of the most underrated talents in Hollywood, and he sequesters himself in Staten Island, New York. What attracted you to that project, and what do you like about working with him, as a filmmaker? You also re-teamed with The Purge filmmaker James DeMonaco for Once Upon a Time in Staten Island. It was not without its bumps, but in the end, it was a collective creation, and I think we knocked it out of the park, for what it is. He’s a director who was around Joe Carnahan, who’s an A-list director, so I think it was a bit stressful because he had to deliver for me and Joe. This is the biggest thing that Joe has ever done. He saw the opportunity, and we all worked great together. Joe and I have a way that we want things to be done, and Joe was very malleable. So, we talked to Joe and he had a vision, so we brought him on and he did a great job. GRILLO: I didn’t know Joe Lynch until Carnahan said, “Here’s a guy who makes these little interesting films that not a lot of people see.” But Joe Carnahan said, “This guy’s got something,” and when Carnahan says that about another director, you listen. What was it then like to then add Joe Lynch, as another piece to that puzzle, and to have him come in and direct the film? Joe and I are in pre-production with The Raid, a remake of the original movie, which we showed Mackie, so Mackie will probably be in there somewhere. Me and Mackie are buddies, and we’ll do more movies together. If there’s something better than that, I’ve never experienced it, as an actor and now as a producer. My best friend and I own a company, where we get to make movies with people that we love and respect, and go and do really great work. This is the next stage of my life, and it’s amazing. He’s my buddy, and we’d been looking for a fun thing to do. Our company (WarParty) produced it, and there was only Anthony Mackie to play this role. GRILLO: My partner, Joe Carnahan, and I developed the movie with a company called Gaumont who owned the original property, and then we rewrote the script. What did you enjoy about working with Anthony Mackie on that? What do you like about having him to play off of? After I closed the game and opened the other day, the game thought I had 14 kills and had to get a single kill and unlock it again.You also recently had Point Blank come out through Netflix. Unlocked it while playing Nuketown, went to the menu to equip it and equipped normally.

Oh, so it actually happened! Bought the game 2 days ago and the first challenge was to unlock a skin for Adler, getting 15 kills with a silenced gun. Now keep in mind that each time I did this the game showed me that I got last point blank camo and gold each time. But after the game was over now it says I'm 72 out of 75. Whatever! So I played another game, did the same thing. After the game was over it put me back at 71 out of 75. Got the point blank kill and got it gold. So I did my last point blank kill 74 out of 75 for the Milano.
